Early morning wakeup in a few hours to drive 3.5 hrs back to San Jose (CR) to catch a flight back to the States. Costa Rica was AMAZING! Even dealing with the earthquake tonight and the scorpion we just found in the bathroom couldn’t ruin it (I decided to let it live and took it outside)
Here is the little critter:
And his buddy the Grasshopper who was in our friend’s room next door…
Talk about difficult shooting… Taking photos today at the hummingbird preserve in Monte Verde was one of the most challenging sessions ever! I shot upwards of 150 photos and only have a handful that I will end up actually posting.
These little guys were sooo erratic and spastic it was ridiculous. I literally had to guesstimate subject location, focus, lighting (cloud forest light is the most dynamic I have ever worked with) and bird movement, while swatting away bees (from the plentiful nectar flowing from all the feeders) and constantly cleaning my lens from the intermittent drizzling….. But, I did get this beautiful bird in flight!
Feel free to use this Facebok Cover Photo if you like!
Thanks for visiting! Back to the USA in a few hours!

Gorgeous! One of natures mysteries and challenges!
…well, you’ve accomplished the impossible!
Gorgeous shots Adam!
Nice images Adam. Hummingbirds are real tough. You should check out Scott Bourne’s site (http://photofocus.com) and the elaborate setup that he had to capture them.

Absolutly spectacular, love it! Thank you for sharing that.
Oh excellent shot! They are the hardest ones to capture, they never stay in one place, and are already gone before I can even get the camera close to my face!
This one shot was worth all the hardship. Wonderful image.
Wow! The humming bird capture is truly amazing…love the shot
Fabulous post here today, Adam! Man, I have no idea how you managed to grab a shot of that hummingbird, I think they dart around faster than a Harrier jump jet!
