An Unforgettable Volcano View

One of the top highlights from our recent trip to Greece was our hotel.  I don’t have many experiences in Europe over the past three years where I can make that claim… Usually, a breakfast buffet will stand out, or a stellar view, maybe a friendly staff willing to bend over backwards for you, or general good feeling you get while enjoying a drink at sunset… The Volcano View Hotel in Santorini had it all, highlighted (for me as a photographer) by the spectacular view we were treated to every time we left our room.  No joke, the view below is what greeted your eyes when you opened your door.  Moderately priced, easily reached from the airport, and centrally located on the island, we literally struck gold with this choice.

The second evening in Santorini, we decided to enjoy the sunset from our hotel rather than spar with the ridiculous number of people pushing and clawing their way in to a decent view of the played-out, albeit beautiful, tourist trap that is Oia (here is a shot I posted on Facebook of the youhavetoseeittobelieveit crowds).  The first night I was like a cat, sneaking in here and there to get shots, getting yelled at and pushed by tourists who had staked out their positions hours earlier, trying to get some classic Oia photos, while my friends patiently waited for me at the restaurant (you guys are the best).  I was mentally exhausted after 30 minutes of that, covered in sweat; that is a story I’ll share another day.  Needless to say, I wanted a relaxing view, where I could slowly roam around at my leisure and take it all in.

Enjoy the view below as I did.  Imagine you are here, drinking some divine Santorini White Wine, tasting the local cuisine, completely at peace without a care in the world…

Thanks for visiting!  Further information and photos from the Volcano View Hotel can be found here!

  6. Beautiful colors and light Adam. Being such an iconic shot, it is not surprising that people line up for hours before sunset (probably why I like sunrise so much).

  10. What a fantastic view, Adam! So much better than fighting the crowds. I bet most of them did not even get to enjoy the view as much as you did from the tranquility of your own hotel room.
