Gran Sasso Sky

August 1, 2012

I am finally victorious.  On a whim I checked to see if the domain  http://adamallegro.com was available today and guess what…  It was!  After 2 years the evil, blood sucking vampires who held my domain hostage finally gave up.  Their efforts in trying to extort 200 dollars from me to buy MY OWN domain name back from them were unsuccessful.  Every time they emailed me asking for the money I would reply with a stream of fire.  I held out and it paid off.  This is one victory I am going to savor :)   Stand by for a sweet little professional photography site in the upcoming months – the blog will stay at this address!

Tomorrow I fly out to Santorini for the weekend.  I cannot wait.  I have been wanting to visit Greece since I arrived in Europe and could not have picked a better place.  From what I have heard, there are a few popular sunset spots that are overloaded with tourists, so hopefully I can get creative and bring you back some unique images!

Today I wanted to share a couple of night photos from our time camping in the Gran Sasso Mountain Range.  Since light pollution was pretty minimal, we were able to clearly see the Milky Way surrounded by millions of stars.  It was quite a treat.  I decided to try something new.  I put my camera on time release, set up my shot, and ran in to the frame, switching on my powerful flashlight and aiming at the stars.  I quite like how the shot came out!

For the second shot, I used a four-minute shutter count, allowing the stars to leave their trails around the peak of Corno Grande.  If you click on the photo, you can clearly see that the North Star is in the center of the frame, all the surrounding stars rotating around it.  Had I not been freezing cold and dead tired I would have taken a few more photos to get some longer trails, but after this shot I called it quits!

Enjoy your weekend!  Don’t forget to subscribe to the Blog to be entered in Monday’s drawing for free prints!

Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend!

Those are awesome shots! I especially love the first one, that flashlight idea was brilliant! I haven’t seen that many stars here lately, there’s just way too much light pollution in the city!

  13. Congrats on the domain name! It is so satisfying to put one one these basic scam artists.

Great shots, Adam. I like the torch beam version. There is a certain mystery to it that is hard to explain.

These show great imagination (and stamina). Night photography is difficult to master but it looks like your have had plenty of practice (and patience).

  15. These are totally cool Adam! Very creative pointing your flashlight toward the stars; a very nice effect. The colors and the clarity of the stars is totally amazing

  16. Rick Louie says:

Nothing better than getting away from the city lights to you can see the stars! Well done!

  17. John says:

Hey Adam! I’m guessing this is the set of photos you were referring to in the comment you left on my site a couple days ago. Yeah I could definitely see star-trails looking really awesome out here.

Would have been cool to incorporate them into the shot with your flashlight pointing towards the sky. Definitely could have given an interesting perspective especially if you were able to point that beam towards the center of the spin.

Anyways great work as always and thanks for sharing!

  18. Marcie says:
