Naples Harbor at Dusk

Good news and bad news.  The bad news is that the winner from Monday never got back to me.  But the good news is that I get to draw another name!  So, congratulations to

dpserik@

You have been selected as this week’s Print Giveaway Winner!  Please respond to the email I sent you within 48 hrs with the required info and I send you your picks!  For the rest of you, this Monday will be the next drawing!  All you have to do to be eligible is subscribe to the blog on the upper right column.  Good luck!

Today we head back to downtown Naples.  A few minutes after I shot the photo of the old man playing his unique violin, I was presented with this blue/purple hour view of the monstrous Mount Vesuvius in the background and a plethora of sailboats in the foreground.  Since I only had my 85mm f/1.8 lens with me at the time, I needed to get creative with all of my shots.

By the way, this is a great little exercise to get you thinking creatively and seeing things in a unique light again.  It might be just what you need to get out of that photo slump and generate some interesting compositions.  Choose one fixed focal length lens (a non-zoom lens) and shoot strictly with that lens for a whole day, weekend, or week.  You will be surprised at how much it will challenge you to think outside the box and some of the creative shots you will come up with.  For the Nikon DX cameras, you can’t beat the $199 35mm f/1.8 for a low price, quality, auto-focus lens.  Focal lengths I use with my D800 include 50mm, 85mm, and 105mm.  Ask below if you have any questions!

Enjoy!

Thanks for visiting!  Check back tomorrow and don’t forget to subscribe!
